When Andrew Foisy decided to bring his younger children, which included my mom Lorraine , to Cherryville BC. it was the early 1950's. His older children Urban, Albert, Charlie and Jean had already moved to the area. The Foisy family were a hardworking joyful family whose love for each other and music became their legacy.
Cherryville dances were frequently entertained by the family band, The Midnight Ramblers, who also featured another long time friend and Cherryvillan Albert Werner. They were a much loved local band. My mom Lorraine joined the family band in the late 50"s/60's. She had been in Alberta performing on a live Radio show and was dubbed as Alberta's Kitty Wells.
In 1963 I was born into this family and performed my first time at a Cherryville dance in 1976. One day in early summer 1976 I met a boy while staying at my cousin Linda and AL Forslund's house in Cherryville and so the next part of my life began.
In 1948 John Kholman came to the Cherryville area with his wife Muriel to raise their 5 children at the junction of Sugar Lake Road and Highway 6 right across the road from us now. Marjorie (Muffy) their daughter was raised here and it was here she met and married the love of her life Rudi Gedaschke who came to Cherryville in 1950, they married in 1957. Rudi was made his living logging and on his off time he could be found fishing, he was part of the crew that logged off the area that eventually bacame Sugar lake. Muffy was happiest surrounded by her children , playing music and cooking for her husband and 4 children. In 1960 their son Walter was born, he grew up in Cherryville and in 1976 he met a girl.
We met in 1976, and for the next 4 years we dated off and on and then we went our seperate ways. Walt moved to Alberta with his 2 children in 1984, pursued a career in gas fitting and in mechanics.
Brenda stayed in Vernon, married raised her 2 daughters then divorced but life was missing something, someone. In
1999 she made a life changing phone call to Walt in Alberta and so it began. They married in 2001, raised their children, welcomed 6 grandchildren and have been working together to create the dream.
Welcome to the dream, where the history, family connections and the love runs deep within the community of Cherryville . Let's create a dream together.
